Management Coaching – what is it?

You are all aware of the use of coaches in professional sport whether it is football, rugby or athletics, designed to improve the overall performance and abilities of the individual or team.

The concept can also be adopted in the Business Management field.

Regardless of whether you are a busy executive in a high profile position or the owner of a small to medium sized business, you can quite often find yourself running about just to stand still. An endless prossession of meetings, emails, telephone calls, staff problems, recruitment, production and distribution – the list of modern day thieves of time are overwhelming.
Into this arena steps the Management Coach; experienced, mature and fairly unflappable and who looks at problems in a very different way to offer real insights and wisdom. With the use of a series of confidential sessions a good management coach will look at things from a different perspective and be able to find out what are the real concerns facing the manager and then start to focus on ways of solving them one by one.

Lavinia Newman, Founder of ABDS says:

“It is often very difficult for managers or SME owners to talk about challenges or concerns to their peers so a confidential one to one discussion with an inspirational and clear headed coach can be a really refreshing experience.”

Business Coaches will bring direct experience of a given situation or be able to draw some parallels with other companies and environments.

A good management coach can make a real difference in improved personal performance, better relationships with colleagues and a generally happier and more productive approach, the fact is, we can all benefit from personal development and support.

At the end of the day the value of coaching can be judged by the growing popularity of this personal development approach as more and more organisations embrace a powerful way of improving performance, outcomes and of course profits.
