UK economic Forecasts for 2011 2012


The British Chambers of Commerce has downgraded its forecast for UK GDP growth in 2011 to 1.4% from a December forecast of 1.9%. However, growth in 2012 will be better than predicted.

What should the monetary policy committee (MPC) of the Bank of England do?

The BCC, on one hand said it believed that the MPC would raise interest rates in May from the current historical low of 0.5%, but the word from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) was one of caution, in balancing the upside risks to inflation against downside risks to growth.

Difficult to know!

One thing we do know, the Retail index fell in February after a better than expected January. But Food and drink and footwear were among the areas that saw growth again in February.

So what can we conclude from this?

We, the public, like to have comfortable shoes when we go to the supermarket.
