HMRC: Credit Card Sales Campaign

The Credit Card Sales Campaign is an opportunity to bring your tax affairs up to date if you’re an individual or business that accepts credit or debit card payments, but haven't paid all the tax you owe, it is a chance to come forward and put your tax affairs in order on the best terms available.

To make the most of this opportunity, you need to tell HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) if you either:

  • haven’t registered with them or
  • have failed to declare all your income

This is called a ‘voluntary disclosure’. To get the best terms, contact HMRC and tell them you want to take part in the campaign.

This opening is available if:

  • you accept card payments for goods or service
  • you haven’t declared all your UK tax liabilities

How do you do this?

You can tell HMRC by either completing their notification form (via the web site) or call the Credit Card Sales Campaign helpline. Then when the disclosure form is complete, you pay what you owe.

You’ll have 4 months to pay what you owe from the date you receive HMRC’s acknowledgement of your notification.

HMRC have details of all credit and debit card payments to UK businesses. This information is used to identify individuals and businesses that might not have paid what they owe.

You could face higher penalties or criminal prosecution if you don’t make a voluntary disclosure now and HMRC finds out that you’ve failed to declare all your income.

If you need any help and advice with any of the matters arising from the HMRC Campaigns, contact Lavinia Newman Stuart Coleman or Liz Kennett now to discuss how ABDS can help bring their experience to these matters.
