HMRC asks for your help.  5th August 2011
The Tax man is asking the general public to help in its fight against organised smuggling, particularly in respect of drugs, illegal alcohol or tobacco sales or tax fraud.
They have supplied a free phone number for the purpose: 0800 595000
The Customs Hotline wants information on:
 drugs
 alcohol
 cigarettes and tobacco
 firearms and explosives
 cash and other financial instruments
 hydrocarbon oils
 military equipment (breaches of sanctions and arms embargoes)
 weapons of mass destruction or their components
 indecent and obscene material (including child pornography)
 meat and other foodstuffs
 endangered and protected species
 high value goods (works of art, antiques, gold, etc)
 counterfeit goods
 dangerous substances
You can also use this number to report information regarding some tax frauds:
 Aggregates Levy.
 Betting and Gaming Duty.
 Climate Change Levy (CCL).
 Excise duties (including illegal use of rebated 'red' diesel).
 Insurance Premium Tax.
 Landfill Tax.
 VAT - including Missing Trader Intra Community (MTIC)/carousel fraud.
