National Minimum Wage rates change today.

The National Minimum Wage is the minimum pay per hour almost all workers are entitled to by law.

It doesn’t matter how small an employer is, they still have to pay the minimum wage, the rate depends on a worker’s age and if they’re an apprentice.

(from 1 October)
Year                   21 and over     18 to 20        Under 18         Apprentice*

2013                  £6.31                 £5.03            £3.72               £2.68
2012                  £6.19                 £4.98            £3.68               £2.65
2011                  £6.08                 £4.98            £3.68               £2.60
2010                  £5.93                 £4.92            £3.64               £2.50
*This rate is for apprentices under 19 or those in their first year. If you’re 19 or over and past your first year you get the rate that applies to your age.

Before 2010, there were no National Minimum Wage rates for apprentices.
